Pelosi on her trip to Syria

http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/041307B.shtml

"NP: The president is not king, the president is the president of the United States. America is a democracy. We have to make decisions based on our judgment. Thus far, the president's judgment hasn't been good, in terms of say for example the war on Iraq. So with all due respect to the president and the role he has, we want respect for the role we have. And members of Congress have gone on fact finding trips since our country began. We're not going to stop because the president wants to avoid the facts and doesn't want to engage in dialogue. We had a bipartisan trip, interesting that the administration chose to ignore the trips of the Republicans who had been there in the week that we were there."

"NP: Everyone has a right to be critical of it [Syria trip]. The point is that we had a very high level visit, which was very well received. The president wants a blank check on all of his foreign policy, including the war. We're simply not going to give that to him."

"CB: But traditionally that has been the power of the presidency. There are some who would argue that legally it is the president's responsibility to conduct foreign policy and it wasn't just the Washington Post, the New York Times' editorial page said that your job is to spur the administration to pursue active diplomatic policy, not to attempt to conduct the diplomacy yourself."

"We have to make decisions based on our judgment."

Shmoop to Nancy: No. You have to make decisions based on The Constitution of this country as charged by the American people. That is your job.

Shmoop,

Precisely right.

I wish someone would explain this to the British Government as well.

They have been voted in to represent the majority of the electorate : not themselves.

Exactly!!!

This is nothing but corruption. Flagrant and, yes, treasonous corruption. She's power-hungry. Ticks me so off.

Since the Dems took control of The Senate and The House they've done nothing but attempt to undermine the President. That's it. I can't think of one productive thing they've attempted to do for the American people. It's become nothing but a soap-opera which makes me wonder . . .

Who's really calling the shots???

Because the a-holes in Washington are doing nothing but sucking up American tax dollars. Right now, I'd love for a flood to wash through DC, and take everything in it's path so we can start over and ACTUALLY RUN THE COUNTRY ACCORDING TO THE CONSTITUTION.

And I'd like to kick the UN outta here, too. Send them to Paris. Let French tax money pay for the parking fines for the chauffeured, double-parked limos those fatcats ride around in between American-Bashing sessions.

Thank you for letting me vent my spleen. It's necessary from time to time.

Shmoop,

No problem ; this seems to be my purpose in life.

Women like yelling at me :

i) Because I don't take it personally

ii)Because after 35 years of it I'm used to it.

iii) Because I pretend I'm listening (oops - forget that bit).
