Once Upon a Time
Once upon a time in a land far away,
a beautiful, independent,
self-assured princess
happened upon a frog as she sat
contemplating ecological issues
on the shores of an unpolluted pond
in a verdant meadow near her castle.
The frog hopped into the princess' lap
and said: " Elegant Lady,
I was once a handsome prince,
until an evil witch cast a spell upon me.
One kiss from you, however,
and I will turn back
into the dapper, young prince that I am
and then, my sweet, we can marry
and set up housekeeping in your castle
with my mother,
where you can prepare my meals,
clean my clothes,
bear my children,
and forever feel grateful and happy doing so."
That night,
as the princess dined sumptuously
on sauteed frog legs
seasoned in a white wine
and cream sauce,
she chuckled and thought to herself:
"I don't fuckin' think so."
The moral of the story?
If the prince is a prince, he will come to you
as a Prince. If not, don't believe the bullshit the
frog tells you.

Damn Scholastic Book Club!
My son wants the Scholastic Book Club collection of Magic Tree House books. 28 books! Including research books! I just bought him a collection of 4. Now he goes to 28. That's quite the jump.
I can't say no to this. I will buy him the books. I will not buy him toys. I've explained that toys are for Christmas and birthdays. Books? How could I say 'NO' to books? We have some of our best conversations over stuff he reads about in the Magic Tree House books! This collection is only $39.95. He will get the books. After we've built the rocket and after we've opened the weather science kit he's got.
I love being a Mom. I really, really do.

When I Need Inspiration . . .
I think of my Great-Grandmother and listen to this song. As an aside, inspiration comes from the word "spirit".
In a Big Country
Big Country
I've never seen you look like this without a reason
Another promise fallen through
Another season passes by you
I never took the smile away from anybody's face
And that's a desperate way to look
For someone who is still a child
In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
Stay alive
I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered
But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in a desert
But I can live and breathe
And see the sun in wintertime
In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
Stay alive
Stay alive
So take that look out of here it doesn't fit you
Because it's happened doesn't mean you've been discarded
Pull up your head off the floor—come up screaming
Cry out for everything you ever might have wanted
I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered
But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in a desert
But I can live and breathe
And see the sun in wintertime

Wish He Was My Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman
http://spiderman3.sonypictures.com/
I'll have to check this out tonight. I'm not a comic aficianado by any means, but I love the images when they're interesting. They've done a bang up job turning Spiderman into a movie. To go from one medium to another and make it work like that . . . wicked. I remember hearing some dudes complain that the moviemakers cast Tobey Maquire as Spidey. He's perfect for the role! He has enough of that "nerdy good guy but you can see the bad boy lurking beneath the surface to make Spiderman hot" thing. I didn't hear any chicks complain.

Spring (Jump)
Till Lindemann
On a bridge, quite high
A man holds his arms open
There he stands and still hesitates
Right away the people swarm in droves
I won't miss out on it either
I want to see it up close
I get into the first row
And scream
The man wants to climb from the bridge
The people begin to hate
They form a dense crowd
And don't want to let him down
So he climbs back up
And the mob begins to rage
They want his innards
And scream
Jump
Redeem me
Jump
Don't disappoint me
Jump for me
Jump into the light
Jump
Now the man begins to cry
A cloud moves in secret
Asking himself what have I done
in front of the sun, it gets cold
I just wanted to see the view
the people break ranks
and look into the evening sky
And they scream
Jump
They scream
Jump
Redeem me
Jump
Don't disappoint me
Jump for me
Jump into the light
Jump
A cloud moves in secret
in front of the sun, it gets cold
But a thousand suns burn just for you
I creep onto the bridge in secret
and kick him in the back from behind
I redeem him from this shame
and I scream to him
Jump
Jump
Redeem yourself
Jump
Don't disappoint me
Jump for me
Jump
Don't disappoint me

Disarm
Disarm
Smashing Pumpkins
Disarm you with a smile
And cut you like you want me to
Cut that little child
Inside of me and such a part of you
Ooh, the years burn
I used to be a little boy
So old in my shoes
And what I choose is my choice
What's a boy supposed to do?
The killer in me is the killer in you
My love
I send this smile over to you
Disarm you with a smile
And leave you like they left me here
To wither in denial
The bitterness of one who's left alone
Ooh, the years burn
Ooh, the years burn, burn, burn
I used to be a little boy
So old in my shoes
And what I choose is my voice
What's a boy supposed to do?
The killer in me is the killer in you
My love
I send this smile over to you
The killer in me is the killer in you
Send this smile over to you
Smashing Pumpkins
Disarm you with a smile
