Bodies by Drowning Pool

One of my all time faves. Apropos for today. I have a feeling I will listen to this one a lot today.

Audio therapy.

No, I'm not about to go on a 6 state killing spree. I'm doing this tongue in cheek. It's still a rockin' tune, though.

Self-Portrait, oils on board

Parasol
Tori Amos

When I come to terms
to terms with this
When I come to terms
with this
When I come to terms
to terms with this
My world will change
for me

I haven’t moved since
the call came
Since the call came
I haven’t moved
I stare at the wall
knowing on the other side
the storm that waits for me

Then the Seated Woman
with a Parasol
may be the only one
you can’t Betray
If I’m the Seated Woman
with a Parasol
I will be safe
in my frame

I have no need
for a sea view
For a sea view
I have no need

I have my little pleasures
This wall being one of these
When I come to terms
to terms with this
When I come to terms
with this
When I come to terms
with this whiplash
of silk on wool embroidery

Then the Seated Woman
with a Parasol
may be the only one
you can’t betray
If I’m the Seated Woman
with a Parasol
I will be safe
in my frame

I will be safe
In my frame
In your house
In your frame

The Eternal Spectator

I Am the Eternal Spectator
Moonspell

I am the eternal spectator

The eternal stimulator
Of things that never come
Of things that never come
I am the eternal spectator

The eternal ruminator
Of things better left alone
Of things better left alone

Watching over you
Sometimes inside of you
Watching over you
Sometimes inside of you

The eternal dictator
Of your perpetual distraction
The eternal collector
Of things that were never done
The eternal agitator
Of a war you never fought
The eternal demonstrator
Until you prove me wrong

Watching over you
Sometimes inside of you
Watching over you
Long-dead inside of you.

For Mira

Dorothy Hamill Haircuts

My oldest sister is on the left, second oldest on the right, then Shmoop. My brother is the towhead.

Look! He had a Dorothy Hamill haircut, too!

I KNEW IT!

"Avatar: The Last Airbender

The Crossroads of Destiny Episode Number: 40 Will Air: Friday December 1, 2006

The heroes work together to stop Azula's destructive plans; Zuko finds companionship in an unlikely source and learns the time has come to make an imperative choice about his future. "

I saw a preview for this episode last night. In it you see Zuko and Kitara together. She's wearing her mother's necklace and crying (I'm assuming Zuko has just returned the necklace to her). Then we see Kitara with her hand on Zuko's scar (healing it, I hope).

I've been telling the husband that Kitara is going to heal Zuko.

Ah, romance is sublime. Just wait. Those two will end up together. Told ya!

From a Liberal Friend of Mine

From the Colbert Report

What will happen now that the Democrats have taken control of the House, and may take over the Senate?
Stephen Colbert knows all too well:

"Tomorrow, you're all going to wake up in a brave new world, where the constitution gets trampled by an army of terrorist clones created in a stem-cell research lab run by homosexual doctors who sterilize their instruments over burning American flags, where tax-and-spend Democrats take all your hard-earned money and use it to buy electric cars for National Public Radio and teach evolution to illegal immigrants. And everybody's high!"

Grab That Book

Tagged by The Zeekstress

Grab that book

1. Grab the nearest book.

2. Open to page 123.

3. Find the fifth sentence.

4. Post the text of the next four sentences on your blog along with these instructions.

5. Don't you dare dig around for that "cool" or "intellectual" book on your shelves. (I know you were thinking about it.) Just pick up whatever is closest.

"Fall down the stairs in a whorehouse?"

Switters checked Bobby's black leather jacket for signs of moisture. "It's quit drizzling, hasn't it? Let's go out on the side deck where we can talk-privately-- although even the deck could be bugged."

This is a giveaway, I think. I asked the Pointy-Headed One to hand me a book off of my shelves, and this is the one he handed to me. And I'll tag the Ferfelater.

I have no idea if this is any good or not. Will probably see it tonight. I'll report back with a review.

JFK is DEAD!

In case Mainers haven't noticed (and I don't believe they have). THAT Democratic party is no more.

John Baldacci was elected governor again. This makes me sad. Very, very sad.

Maine is very much a red state acreage-wise, but there are small pockets of high population areas that vote Dem. Much like a lot of the country. I live in Maine for a reason.

Every Sunday morning I hear church bells ring. I know the seasons by the smell of cow manure and the color of the leaves. I love the smell of wood smoke. Tractors are everywhere. I can sit in our yard petting calves with my kids and telling them not to let the cow latch onto their hand because they'll never get it back. I like honor-system roadside farmstands. "Ya here for the cohn (corn)? It's on the porch. Put the money in the jah (jar)." No questions asked. No one looks at you twice unless you're dressed too nice. Then they give you the hairy eyeball.

We know who is in our community. And no one gossips. Gossips aren't tolerated. The neighbors may not like the Canadian flag you hang under your American flag but "it's your proptay (property)". Live and let live. Just don't cause trouble. Cause trouble and they'll accidentally shoot you during hunting season. (Just kidding.)

I hope it stays this way.

Ribbons Undone

Ribbons Undone
by Tori Amos
She’s a girl
rising from a shell
running to spring
It is her time
It is her time
Watch her run
with ribbons undone
She’s a rose
in a lily’s cloak
She can hide her charms
It is her right
There will be time
to chase the sun
with ribbons undone
She runs like a fire does
just picking up daises
Comes in for a landing
a pure flash of lightening
Past alice blue blossoms
you follow her laughter
And then she’ll surprise you
Arms filled with lavender
Yes my little pony
is growing up fast
She corrects me and says
“you mean a thoroughbred”
A look in her eye says the battle’s beginning
From school she comes home
and cries
I don’t want to grow up Mom
at least not tonight
You’re a girl
Rising from a shell
Running through Spring

Best Morbid Tunes

It's a toss up between Precious Things and Blood Roses by Tori Amos. I'm going to give Precious Things the prize as most morbid because the piano playing is psychotic and the lyrics are angsty and subversive. Kinda makes me squirm. There are only so many times I can listen to this one in a day. I love the cracking of the whip toward the beginning.

Both are rockin' tunes.

Precious Things
from Little Earthquakes

So I ran faster
but it caught me here
yes my loyalties turned
like my ankle
in the seventh grade
running after Billy
running after the rain

these precious things
let them bleed
let them wash away
these precious things
let them break their hold over me

He said you're really an ugly girl
but I like the way you play
and I died
but I thanked him
can you believe that sick sick
holding on to his picture
dressing up every day
I wanna smash the faces
of those beautiful boys
those Christian boys
so you can make me come
that doesn't make you Jesus

these precious things
let them bleed
let them wash away
these precious things
let them break their hold over me

I remember
yes in my peach party dress
no one dared
no one cared
to tell me where the pretty girls are
those demigods
with their nine inch nails
and little fascist panties
tucked inside the
heart of every nice girl

these precious things
let them bleed
let them wash away
these precious things
let them break
let them wash away
these these precious things
let them bleed now
let them wash away
these these precious things
let them break
their hold over me
